Horizons Unlimited has worked with adults who have developmental, mental and/or physical disabilities for more than 40 YEARS. Through every program Horizons offers, our mission is “Providing opportunities for our Horizons family to develop their full potential in a positive atmosphere.” Program areas Horizons offers include residential, vocational and day habilitation services.
Through our residential services
, life skills taught include:
- Meal Preparation
- Home Management
- Personal Hygiene
- Social Skills
Residential options available include group homes, apartments, and Supported Community Living.
Through our vocational services, Horizons offers work opportunities through community employment. Individuals work at dozens of businesses throughout the area.
With community employment
, Horizons helps individuals find work in the community and these individuals work directly for the employers. Community employees are supported by trained and certified Horizons job developers and job coaches until they become proficient enough that they no longer need supports. Employees supported by Horizons work in all kinds of jobs, in settings as varied as retail stores, restaurants, factories and plants, offices and clinics, pharmacies, schools and daycares, libraries, hotels, car dealerships, salons, museums, gas stations, retirement homes, and outdoor settings. Community Life Engagement
is offered in the community in either 1-on-1 or small-group settings (of no more than 4 participants to a group). CLE staff pick participants up from their home, take them out into the community for activities, and then drop participants back off at their homes. CLE focuses on teaching social interaction, job readiness, physical fitness, daily orientation, health and hygiene, and community awareness and involvement.
